Goodbye, Finn Hudson.

14 July 2013

I was a big fan of Glee right until the half of third season. I loved the dynamics of the cast, the snappy lines, the cheese, and the frivolous campiness of it. Also, don't tell anyone this, but a lot of episodes made me cry. Things started going downhill since though, and although I acknowledge that the old cast couldn't stay in McKinley forever and love that Rachel and Kurt are now in New York, I do not like the new members of New Directions that much. I feel like they're just not-so-good trying hard duplicates who lack the personality and screen presence of the original batch.

Still, I couldn't stop watching it. It was one of those things that make me feel like since I have already started with, then I should just follow through until the end. It is definitely one of my biggest guilty pleasures.

A few hours ago social networking sites exploded with the news that Cory Monteith has died. To say I was shocked right out of my socks is an understatement. I refused to believe it at first ("But he's so young! And he has left rehab already! And he and Lea Michele are engaged! Engaged! They were supposed to make beautiful musically-inclined babies together!" were the first thoughts that came to mind) but when reputable news sites confirmed it, I didn't have any other choice.

I am so affected by this. If his death was because of drugs (and there's a high probability as people who suffered relapses are more prone to drug overdose), how tragic indeed. He was so young and had a supportive group of friends around him, yet he was still unable to conquer his demons. He looked happy. He was in love. He appeared to be changing his life around. How very sad and unfortunate. This just goes to show that not everything is what it seems.

We're never going to see new photos of him, we'll never hear new songs by him ever again, and even though I never really knew him nor even came close to meeting him, it makes me so sad. Glee will never be the same without Finn Hudson's awkward dancing and towering presence. Rest in peace, Cory Monteith.

  3. This news affected me so much esp. that he's only a year older than I am... I'm only lucky that my *addictions (moisturizers and lipsticks) won't cause death as apparent as his...
