She works hard for the money (and shoes and books)

08 November 2012

How sweet it is to be rewarded for things you have worked hard for. I may not have become a writer by profession, but I still get writing gigs every now and then. I am glad and thankful because not only do I get to do what I love the most, I also get paid for doing it!

For the two articles I have submitted for AVA's online magazine, I got enough credits to be able to buy a pair of heels from Jean Paul Gaultier's collaboration with Melissa. From the original price of P7,000++, it was on sale for only P2,500! I only needed to add P500 to my credit balance and voila, I now have the closest thing to owning a Gaultier piece.

I chose orange because it's just so unconventional. I know I won't be able to wear it with most items in my closet but I think it's kinda the point of owning a one-of-a-kind piece. The fact that I won't be able to wear it regularly just makes it more special. Besides, I have always associated Melissa with being fun and quirky, and what could be quirkier than a pair of orange shoes? I don't know if you get what I am saying but I don't care, I have pretty shoes mwahaha.

It arrived last Monday and I've worn it to two separate events since.
As you know, I sometimes accept sponsored posts and commissioned works in my blog. The payment is coursed through Paypal, and because I want to save myself the hassle (and costs) of having the money transferred to my regular bank account, I just leave it there and save it for when something incredibly tempting comes up while shopping online.

Back in July, I ordered two books from Book Depository and was really pleased with the over-all experience (plus points for free shipping all over the world!) so I figured I wanted to get a book or two for myself again. I had a hard time choosing but I eventually did, and even though it is a lot more expensive than the combined prices of the two books I bought previously, I still wanted it so bad. Why, you ask?

Because of Batman of course!
I got The Art and Making of The Dark Knight Trilogy.
Batman is my favorite superhero and I think Christopher Nolan is one of the best directors of our generation. Words cannot express how much a fan I am of the Batman trilogy he has helmed. I mean, I cannot wrap my head around how awesome his movies are that I am metaphorically frothing at the mouth! I was actually starting to worry because two weeks have already passed (or maybe I am just too excited) and the book hasn't arrived yet, so you could just imagine how relieved and pleased I was when my dad called me earlier to say that my book is already with him in the post office!I I've skimmed through it a bit and totally LOVED what I saw. I can't wait to read the whole book at my leisure. :)

It's not a sin to reward yourself every once in a while. If any, it even motivates you to work harder --- rewards feel more fulfilling when you know you worked hard to get it, yes? Now you know how I have rewarded myself this month. How about you, how do you reward yourself?

  1. I loooove your shoes. I think it's better to buy designer shoes in unconventional color or design esp. if it's a one of a kind collab :) Congrats on your Batman book. Is there a pic of Heath Ledger? :( Anyway, I am reminded to reward myself from time to time. Thank you, Krissy :))

  3. Hi Rae! I'm not sure :/ The last time I went to The Flat Shop in Greenhills (they carry Melissa shoes) I only saw Vivienne Westwood Melissas. I hope AVA comes up with another sale again. I have another pair in my wish list eh hehe. Good luck! :)
