Bye, ugly brows!

10 April 2012

It is easy to overlook some things and take them for granted just because they've always been there. For example, our eyebrows. It's easy to dismiss them as just extra hair, but do you know they serve important functions? More than its main use of preventing moisture (mostly sweat and rain) from flowing into the eye, eyebrows also shade the eyes from sunlight and protect the eyes from other stuff like dandruff (eww) and insects (double eww). They are also important to human communication and strengthening facial expression. Of course, let's not forget their uses for aesthetic purposes; they bring attention to the eyes and frame the face and a bit of tweaks here and there can change your look from natural, to sophisticated, to dramatic.

When I was in high school, I used to have ultra-thick and wayward brows that can compete with Betty Suarez. Yes. A fairy godmother came in the form of a makeup artist. When we had our yearbook photos taken, she tweaked my brows, and BOOM, a tweezer became one of my new bestfriends.

A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to visit the Serendra branch of Browhaus so I can experience their services.

Inspired by Bauhaus, the German architecture movement, Browhaus believes that there is a functionality behind every style. It is this idea that created Browhaus, your one-stop urban grooming pitstop for the look-conscious individual. Offering brow and lash grooming services, Browhaus designs your perfect brow and accentuates your lashes for your best face forward.

Browhaus is built for the image-conscious urbanite who demands not just function, but function and style. I experienced just that when I got my eyebrows groomed by them! I had the Classic Threading service, and what a difference it made! Wait 'til you see the photos ;) I went the day I got into a minor accident so please excuse the cut and bump on my forehead ;p

BEFORE
AFTER
The brow technician said she would give me a natural arch, and it was exactly what I got. See? My eyebrows look neater, more polished, and prettier :)

The best thing about it? It didn't hurt at all! I was expecting to get involuntary tears because threading can get slightly painful (as I've experienced from other salons) but Browhaus's treatment did not make me feel uncomfortable at all! If anything it made me want to doze off, if only the service took more than ten minutes ;) When I asked the brow tech why, she said it's because they use 100% cotton thread. Wow, I didn't know it would be that big of a deal. The Classic Threading service costs P580. Yes, it is relatively more expensive than the threading services offered by other salons, but it would take a while before you'd have to go back. And a professional threading service from a reputable brow grooming station known from all over the world? I think the price is just right. In short, don't knock it 'til you've tried it.

This photo was taken at the photoshoot I had the next day :)
No eyebrow makeup used!
Do you know that aside from removing unwanted hairs from your brows, Browhaus can also resurrect "dead" brows? They now offer Brow Resurrection which is perfect for those who have either over-tweezed or those who have super-thin brows to begin with! It is a signature semi-permanent treatment that boasts a more detailed and natural stroke, finer than normal brow embroidery techniques. This patented technique is exclusive to Browhaus and involves five years of dedicated R&D to perfect and can last up to two years following proper care and the use of after care products. A complimentary Aftercare kit (worth P4,950) and Tune Up (worth P7,500) are given to customers who purchase Brow Resurrection.

Browhaus has branches in Singapore, London, New York, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Jakarta, and Bangkok! In Manila, their branches are located in Serendra and Greenbelt 5 open from 11AM to 9PM from Sundays to Thursdays and 11AM to 10PM on Fridays and Saturdays.

Is it weird that I am looking forward to having more stray hairs so I can go back for another threading session with them?
