Review: L’Oréal Paris Shine Caresse Lip Glosses

10 April 2014

Have you had enough of the birthday talk? It feels like that's all I've talked about since this month started! Don't worry, I'm laying off on those now to share something I've been loving lately. (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)

You know how I'm such a lip product fiend? Well, last week, the L’Oréal Paris PH team brightened up my work day when they sent me a couple of lip glosses from their newest line, Shine Caresse.

This blog's tagline may be Peace, Love, & Lip Gloss but to be honest I am more of a lipstick girl than a gloss girl. While I do appreciate (and prefer!) a slick of gloss at the center of my lips as a finishing touch after applying lipstick, I find applying purely gloss on the lips too bothersome. Bothersome without the color pay-off? Not worth it, methinks. Aside from some glosses being too sticky, I'm not really a fan of the whole translucent oil-slicked lips thing going on. Let's see how these L’Oréal Paris Shine Caresse Lip Glosses fare.

I got Luna (Kiss Me Pink) and Cherie (Beach Berry) from their 2014 Summer Shades collection and I'll be sharing swatches and 'when worn' photos with you.

One swipe each of L’Oréal Paris Shine Caresse Lip Glosses in Luna (left) and Cherie (right)
Pretty and pigmented colors, yes? I love the micro-shimmers, too! I'm a human magpie so you know that's a plus for me. ;) How are they when worn, though?

L’Oréal Paris Shine Caresse Lip Glosses in Luna

While I loved the playful pink color that is more obvious in person than in photos, the color on my lips obviously did not match its color in the tube. Maybe it's because I put on just one swipe? My lips are pretty pigmented and I sometimes need more than one swipe of light-colored lip products for it to show. I know I should have taken more photos after putting more lip gloss on, and for the purposes of this post I promise I will. (Although my friend Niel tried Luna and it looked ultra-pretty on her so, you know, maybe it's just really my lips' fault?)

L’Oréal Paris Shine Caresse Lip Glosses in Cherie

At first I thought Cherie was just a darker and redder version of Luna, but after just a few minutes, this muted red turned to this:

More intense berry red that made me look fairer than I really am!
Snow White lips, anyone?
I guess it's easy to guess which one I'll be reaching out for more, yes?

My thoughts: while Luna isn't as pigmented as I expected it to be as apparent as the swatch on the back of my hand, the prettiness of Cherie more than made up for it.

My favorite thing about Shine Caresse Lip Glosses though is the fact they don't feel *that* icky on my lips. Shiny without going overboard and almost looks natural; gives a moist-look effect without drying the lips. I wear them without swiping lip balm on first! They wear like liquid lip color, feel like liquid lip color, and fairly last like liquid lip color. I swiped Luna on my lips in the morning today and it lasted all throughout a client meeting and only disappeared almost halfway through lunch. When you're shopping for lip products, dependability is one of the things you should look for and I think L’Oréal Paris Shine Caresse is up for the job. Just manage your expectations well and don't think it will last more than five hours as some long-lasting lipsticks are wont to do and you'll be okay.

By the way, if you've ever done calligraphy, the tiny hole in the center of the foam applicator actually reminded me of a calligraphy nib because its purpose is to remove excess color as you apply the lip color, just like the hole in the center of the nib! I read that this helps to give the lips a light, subtle lustre. Awesome, yes/ yes?

Other shades from the same collection are Flora (Fuchsia Fun), Ruby (Ready in Red), and Iris (Color Me Coral). I'm interested to see how Flora would look like on me only because my favorite lipstick of all time is MAC Girl About Town.

Each L’Oréal Paris Shine Caresse Lip Gloss costs P595 each and are exclusively imported and distributed by L’Oréal Philippines, available nationwide in all L’Oréal Paris counters. Getting the combined look of gloss and color with that amount? Pretty worth it.

Disclosure: These products were sent to me by the L’Oréal Paris PH team for free. I was not paid nor required to write this review and all opinions are my own. Kindly see my complete Disclosure Policy here.

  2. Yikes o.0 Yeah, maybe it's the high water content! Oh well, I need to use them all up agad then. Not a problem really because they're all I've been using exclusively! Today I'm wearing Cherie. :)
