Little Miss Writer

06 July 2012

Remember the time when the "Little Miss" shirts were all the rage? These shirts dominated online shops around two years ago, and featured different professions (Little Miss Engineer, Little Miss Nurse, etc.) and a cute cartoon representing the said profession. My favorite was - of course - Little Miss Writer.

Little Miss Writer shirt - The Perfect White Shirt | Green colored jeans - Tutuban Centermall
Bag - Fabrics in Style | Sandals - Grendha
I find it funny that I also used to wear my then-super long hair the same way as the girl in my shirt ;p

This is what I wore to work today. I'm happy I didn't sell my colored jeans at any of the Bloggers United bazaars (I also have moss green, light pink, purple, and gold, but from different brands.) I bought this particular pair around three years ago but only got to wear it once because I thought it looked too big for me. After sorting out Narnia my closet a couple of weeks ago, I took it out of the un-worn pile, tried it on, and fell in love again. I'm thankful I gained a little weight because my green jeans now fit me perfectly :)

The weather has been really crrrazy lately. Be safe, everyone!

Amanda, Loving Life

05 July 2012

When I was still in high school, I looked forward to the coming of a new month because I knew new issues of my favorites Candy and [the now defunct] Seventeen Philippines magazines will be released. Thankfully my mom indulged my addiction to teenage glossies, and until now I still have my old [plastic covered, even] copies sorted by month under my bed.

During those days, models graced the covers and editorials of my favorite 'zines. My favorites were Amanda Griffin, Kelly Misa, Karen Pamintuan, Nicole Hernandez, Maricar Reyes, Patty Laurel, and Maike Evers. Aside from being gorgeous and stunning ladies, they seemed to lead such perfect lives and I really looked up to them a lot. I honestly think magazine covers then were better than the crop of magazines now that just do a switcheroo of same faces, same famous celebrities.

During lazy days, I still take my old teen mags out from storage and wonder how my old fave models are now. I know some of them went on to become famous on other field like acting or hosting, while some still model for ramp, print or TVC. Some has moved on from glitz and glamour and became wives and/ or mothers.

But then I guess you can take the girl out of glitz and glamour, but you cannot take the glitz and glamour out of the girl.

One of my favorites, Amanda Griffin, is now happily married and a mother to a beautiful baby boy, but now she still has something up her sleeves.

She has a new show Amanda, Loving Life that will premiere on the LIFESTYLE NETWORK on July 8, 2012 at 7:30PM.
The host is former Channel [V] international VJ, “F” host, model turned super mom, AMANDA GRIFFIN-JACOB. This show is the very first of its kind on Philippine television: a high-end locally produced lifestyle show purely dedicated to today’s young urban mother. In this generation of accomplishment and instant gratification, the hyphenate is no longer the exception but the norm. Most women wear multiple hats aside from their most important one (motherhood). This show speaks to the growing need for today’s mother to be informed and aware that she can do it all and have it all too.
Nowadays, both motherhood and womanhood are equally fulltime jobs. Given today’s fast-paced lifestyle, everybody needs positivity. The show is all about finding one’s purpose and simple joys as it will touch also on various interesting topics of wellness and health, motherhood, fashion and lifestyle, and anything & everything that makes life more joyous, substantial and fulfilling.

Looking at how gorgeous Amanda still is and all the wonderful things she has accomplished and will still accomplish, who says you can't have it all? Even though I am not a mother yet, I am excited to watch this show. :)

I wish I could go back to college.

03 July 2012

Life was so simple back then.
What would I give to go back
and live in a dorm with a meal plan again!

I woke up this morning with the heavy pitter-patter of rain on the roof. It definitely looked like it would rain all day so as expected, my Twitter feed was filled with students wondering if classes will be suspended and yuppies reminiscing all the times they wished for the suspension of classes.

It's a feeling I remember all too well. You see, I may be a big nerd who loved school and learning so much, but even I feel that one of the best moments in one's life as a student is the announcement of classes being suspended for the day because of the weather!

Now that I'm already working, I know I cannot depend on PAG-ASA and DepEd or CHED's late announcements anymore as we need to go to work even when it's raining lobsters and dinosaurs outside. If I want to survive corporate serfdom, I have to suck it in - a yuppie's gotta do what a yuppie's gotta do. Still, one can't help but wish.

When I was still a young, impressionable, idealistic college student at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila circa 2003 - 2007, I didn't like our school uniform that much because I felt like the pencil skirt and white blouse constricted my movements too much. I lived for Saturdays because we were allowed to be in civilian attire as long as we followed the dress code. I developed my own style of top-jeans-heels combo that time, and until now it's still a get-up I keep on coming back to whenever I get lazy to dress up for something.

Looking back, I wish I could go back to college and re-do some of my sartorial choices. If I could go back to college, this is definitely one outfit I would totally rock.

I wish I could go back to college.
In college you know who you are.
You sit in the quad and think, "Oh my God!
I am totally gonna go far!"

Beanie - from Baguio | Plaid polo - Kashieca | Capri pants - Unica Hija
Bag - Accessorize | Leather cuff - Penshoppe | Watch - Skechers | Heels - Landmark, TriNoma

I mean, I would fit right in, right??

With Miko and Verge who are still in college.

This is what I wore to STATUS Magazine's Tea Party I wrote about here. I think this is the first time I wore an outfit like this because I have this weird opinion that collars don't suit me that much hehe. But, whatever right? I'm 26 and there's no other time to be more experimental with my style. Aisa and Ana begged to differ though and told me they actually like this look on me than the girly, flirty dresses I am accustomed to. What do you think? Preppy Krissy, yay or nay? Let me know in the comments ;)

STATUS Par-Tea

02 July 2012

Alternate title: I love you, Adam Levine.

Tea party to launch a magazine's newest issue? Why? Why not?

Last Friday after work, I braved the payday/ The Amazing Spiderman crowd to go to STATUS Magazine's new HQ in Makati City for an afternoon filled with fun, chips and cookies, milk tea, and Adam Levine!

I was the first to arrive so the STATUS team let me browse the newest ish while waiting.
Kevin and Dan also kept me company and swapped stories with me about different stuff like my job and what it's like to work for STATUS.
Thanks guys, I enjoyed talking to you two :)
The other invited bloggers started to arrive after a few minutes!

With my former officemate Thysz who took the leap and now reaps the success with Moonleaf Tea Shop.
I am so happy for him!

I know working for a publication can be really stressful, but the STATUS team all looked really cool and relaxed. As you can see, we felt really comfortable there LOL. Their HQ felt very cozy and laidback and everyone looked like they were really enjoying their jobs. I guess it shows when you love what you're doing ;)

It wouldn't be a tea party without the tea, would it?
Wintermelon Milk Teas from Moonleaf Tea Shop for everyone!

Awesome sisters Raleene and Rizza
Verge and Miko snapping photos
The invite said we would be playing games - I was actually ready for a mean game of Scrabble or charades, but guess what we played? An updated, more challenging version of Trip to Jerusalem called Rolling in the Deep! Why that name? I don't know, maybe because instead of stationary chairs, this game used swivel office chairs ;D

I was the only one in heels LOL.
I actually thought I would be eliminated after just a couple of rounds...
but no! I even reached the semi-final round!
Look, I changed into my sandals mehehe.
I eventually won the game, which involved chasing a person sitting down on the swivel chair and sitting down on her lap LOL.
Photo grabbed from Ana
BIG thanks to the STATUS team especially Miss Rosario Herrera and Dan Buenaventura for having us in this tea party and for letting us peek in to your HQ. I have visited quite a few offices and I must say yours is one of the coolest! It was such a chill and relaxed afternoon and I enjoyed meeting new people and hanging out with old friends especially Ana and Aisa.

I'm not saying this just because the STATUS team was nice to me or whatever, but I honestly think this magazine is one of the best in the country today. If you look at other magazine titles, you'll see the same faces on the cover, rehashed articles, and just okay content - whereas STATUS defies the norms by coming up with great covers and groundbreaking and fresh content. I actually thought it was an international title when I first saw one, and I mean that as a compliment. Visit their website and you'll see what I mean.

Now let's take a look at STATUS magazine's July ish, also known as its first Sex, Love and Rock & Roll issue.

This month's cover art by Berto Martinez features Maroon 5, with the photo taken by notorious Hollywood photographer Terry Richardson. I've never seen them live so even though I think they should make their Filipino fans miss them more as they've been here just last year, I am excited for their concert on September. I haven't bought tickets yet and from what I hear the VIP up to Upper A tickets have already been sold out, so wish me luck. I love their songs and Adam Levine is just so crazy sexy hot. What's your favorite Maroon 5 song? I have a lot, but my current fave is It's Better That We Break. Ack so emo haha.

Statusphere
This section features what's hot in the music, movie, and literary scene. I always love checking out sections like this in different magazines to keep me updated. This particular feature made me want to buy a copy of the book Shadow Show, a collection of never-before-published short stories by bestselling authors (including Neil Gaiman, Audrey Niffenegger, and Margaret Atwood) inspired by Ray Bradbury, one of America's greatest speculative fiction writers.

A feature on David Finch
Keane's Bro Code
I stifled a yay! when I read from STATUS' Facebook page that Keane will be part of this issue. I love Keane and their song Somewhere Only We Know is my ultimate favorite love song ♥
.
The BEST part of being given a copy of this month's issue by the STATUS team themselves?

My own personalized Adam Levine bookmark!
This man's gorgeous!
Thank you so much STATUS! I can't wait to finish reading my copy! Leaving you with this quote from the interview with Maroon 5:

STATUS Magazine is available monthly at bookstores near you. Just ask the salesladies nicely; Dan told me they're often placed in the international titles' section (awesome!) or you can also download the latest issue on your iPad. Visit STATUS Magazine's website here.

Jolly July!

01 July 2012

So, July.

To be honest, I thought July will find me in a totally new environment. But no, I am still here, back where I started. I won't stop until I find myself where I want to be though, because I am stubborn and strong-willed and determined like that.

So, hello July. I wish you will bring beautiful things that will leave me breathless and exhilarated. I wish the same for you, too, dear reader. ♥

I'm so excited to share with you all the things I've been up to in the last few days, but I guess those can wait because later I'll be with my family to celebrate my grandma's birthday. I can't wait!

Eat delicious things while you can still eat them,
go to wonderful places while you still can
and not have evenings where you say to yourself:
"What am I doing here? Why am I here? I am bored witless!"
