Redhead Chronicles

04 January 2014

Not that anyone asked, but I thought I'd post a quick update on my red hair's state of affairs here. 。◕‿◕。

As you know, I had my long locks chopped off almost three years ago and I never looked back. I love my pixie cut but I don't want to be limited by its length, so I try to change it up from time to time without resorting to drastic changes like shaving half of it or getting a fauxhawk. The solution? Hair color.

I had my hair dyed red at FIX Lab in TriNoma last December 14. It was actually a decision made on impulse after watching Frozen. My hairstylist Pabs asked me numerous times if I really wanted to proceed, seeing as I have very thick (and dark!) hair so it might not give me the results I wanted. Being the stubborn girl that I am, I told him to go through with it, and I am so glad he did.

This is how it looked like immediately after I left the salon.
And this is how it looked like the next day.
Day 3
Eleanor & Park feels, yes?
To say that I LOVE IT is an understatement. I prefer saying, "Can I keep my hair like this, forever?" complete with puppy dog eyes.

Unfortunately, as what Pabs told me, red is one of the fastest-fading colors you can dye your hair with. He warned me that this vibrant red might last me two weeks tops before it fades to brown, so I made sure to read up online on how I can make it last as long as possible. The best tip I found: It is very important to use sulfate-free products. Check out this list for more tips. I will put up another post on my current hair essentials, but for the meantime, here are more photos from the past few days.

Day 6
I like how my hair looks specially glossy and 'behaved' in this photo. I didn't wash my hair that morning and used only Toni&Guy Dry Shampoo. No other hair products used.
Day 17 - First day of 2014
Photo taken indoors with abundant natural light
Day 18
Photo taken outdoors but under an overcast sky. I like how the red is noticeable and can be singled out in a crowd.
Day 19
This photo was taken outdoors yesterday while the sun was shining bright [and hot].
As you can see, it is still (thankfully) a very vibrant red but the roots have (eep!) started to show. I would gladly touch it up DIY-style, but I'm afraid it won't look as nice as a professional dye job does. The process of dyeing my hair this color hurt like hell that I almost begged my stylist to stop, but after seeing the results I knew it is something I would wholeheartedly go through again when the color fades. It would be cool to color my hair more adventurous shades like pink or blue, but I don't think it would suit my lifestyle or mesh with my personality that well, so I think I'm sticking with red. For the meantime. (^_~)

  1. Red IS really a hard color to maintain but it's also my favourite hair colour! I sported a red to orange ombre this year and I really loved it! It made me feel like I'm on fire, hehe! :)

The annoying thing is that it fades so quickly and roots are easily seen.

This year though I'm planning to grow out my natural hair colour. Taking a break from chemical treatments (rebond, hair color).

    Anyway, I'm blabbing, haha! :)

    Love your hair! :)

  2. I like red hair too! I've had my hair colored red a couple of times but I am never able to keep the color because I'm too lazy to change my hair care routine lol (I always just stick to my Human Nature hair products). It's really great that you're able to maintain yours!

"The process of dyeing my hair this color hurt like hell" <<Ooohh, I see, so it was normal. I was scared as my scalp was hurting so bad when I had my hair colored red... I thought all my hair was gonna fall off haha.

  3. A red to orange ombre sure sounds great! But I don't think I can pull it off, especially with my very short hair. ^_^

  4. Use the Vidal Sassoon Color Care line, Claire! IT'S THE BEST! :D

I was scared, too! And I wanted to shout "ENOUGH!" because it hurt so bad LOL, but thankfully I didn't! I want to have it done again, although it might be a wise idea to pop in a painkiller first. :D
