The day I thought I'll never get through, I got over you.

13 July 2010

The day I have been waiting for ever since that sad, sad day in March has come.

"This too shall pass" - that's the mantra I kept on reminding myself while I was dealing with this heartbreak and I am so happy to say that, finally, it has passed.

Photo taken from Team Jimmy's last teambuilding (07 July 2010)

I cannot put my finger on how exactly it happened. All I know is that yesterday, while eating ice cream with him, I realized that I do not feel that heavy feeling of emptiness in my heart anymore. On our way home, while he was driving me to my stop, we joked and laughed like old friends. Like the way we used to. Like the way we were before this (500) Days of Summer-relationship started.

I cannot tell you how many sleepless nights I spent crying, wishing I can turn back time and undo some of the choices I made. I cannot tell you how badly I obsessed about wanting to be loved by him again, how I wanted to bury the pain and ease the loneliness, and how isolating and damaging the depression I felt was. Sorry for being Miss Whine-a-Lot in the past few months. I wouldn't want you guys to think I am a self-harming emo kid in real life. x_x

Seeing the same person who I used to share my days with every day (at work) is difficult, but I guess it also helped me heal. As days passed, my heart began to feel numb and just decided, by herself, that this has got to stop. I think it's much better this way than to not see him for a long time and then feel everything rush to me all over again if in case we meet in the future.

Thanks to this blog (for being a silent witness to everything), my family (for being there no matter what), my friends (for listening to my rants and comforting me even when I was being such a downer), good books (especially Elizabeth Gilbert's Eat Pray Love for taking my mind off things), good movies (the best stress-buster for me), good music (I could just drown in beautiful lyrics and nice rhythms), the Internet and Facebook games (for providing that much needed escape) and YOUR support (you guys are the best, I swear), I was able to pull myself together. Really, I couldn't have done it without you.

Finally I am free, and I feel light as a feather.

Cheers! Clinking our glasses for Coke.

10 July 2010

I know this is a very unpopular opinion, but I am one of the minority who doesn't follow the goings-on in the World Cup. As I have confessed before, I do not really like sports. Yes, I was the total nerd in high school who preferred to play Scrabble with my fellow nerds during P.E. classes rather than sweat it out in the volleyball court. My ex-boyfriend Athan also used to tag me along to watch UAAP games live at the Araneta Coliseum. I enjoyed them, yes, but if I were made to choose between a basketball game and a movie I would go for the movie, hands down. I also watch my best friend Jerome's badminton games whenever I get the chance but I am mostly there for moral support. I cannot, for the life of me, remember the technicalities in the game.

Which is why I was surprised when I received an email from Team BlogBank advising me that I was chosen to receive a set of limited edition Coke-FIFA contour glasses!

Last Thursday, my very good friend/ teammate Mich went with me to Starcom's office in Enterprise Center, Makati City to claim my prize. Let me be honest, it was actually my first time to walk around Ayala Avenue. (I know, right? Kill me now.) It's just that my school life used to revolve in Manila and Pasig while my current career life is in Quezon City. I'm embarrassed to admit that I would most probably get lost if you leave me to fend for myself in Makati, but my philosophy will not be tainted: so long as I have money and I know how to read, I will be able to find my way home! ;)

So yeah, the glasses.

The box :)

Six different-colored contour glasses and a CD (which I haven't checked the contents of yet)

The colors are pink, green, yellow-green, gray, blue and purple

The glasses also feature drawings of different football moves which are also drawn at the side of the box.

I do not know how exactly I qualified for the prize (and I did not ask why) but of course I am thankful to Team BlogBank and Starcom for these glasses. Thank you for noticing my blog! Cheers! :)

I believe these glasses are still available at McDonald's, you just have to add P25 per Value Meal. I'm just not sure whether the branches still have all the colors. I'm so thankful that I was given the chance to own the full set :)

Only the curious have something to find.

09 July 2010

In a previous post I have told you guys that my direct superior, TL Jimmy, has decided to transfer to another department. If you're thinking that it's our fault that he is transferring, please don't XD Main reason why he's leaving us is because he has been in the same department ever since he started with HSBC and that was already almost five years ago. In his words, he needs a new environment, new challenges, and a change of pace. In a way, I must say I envy him for he was brave enough to step out of his comfort zone and rock the boat, so to speak, while I am still here, collecting courage badges. Last Wednesday, we had our last teambuilding with him at the still-being-renovated room at the fourth floor of Marsha's house.

There's the guy before the drinks were consumed

He was actually the third TL who has handled me in a team as I have been transfered from other teams twice before but he's the one who has managed me the longest. Also, my tranchemates have been with him ever since they started on the operations floor three years ago so when you say my teammates' names, it is already synonymous to Team Jimmy. Indeed, it is hard to imagine Team Jimmy to go by another name :(

He was more than a team leader. He was a friend, a confidante, and a protector. A toughie with a sweet side. Not once did he make us feel that we are mere subordinates and he always have our backs ready to offer words of encouragement or a corny joke, whichever we need when we need them. I think what I will remember the most is when he was consoling me when I broke down at the office, he quoted the lines "What I am today is because of the decisions I made three years ago, and what I will be in the future is because of the decisions I will make today." It definitely forces you to really think things through before deciding, doesn't it? His new work schedule clashes with ours so we may not see him for a long, long time even if we would still be working in the same company. It is sad, yes, but that's life. We need to say goodbye to a few and continue on meeting new ones. But then again, goodbyes do not necessarily mean forever, right?

Besides, how can he forget us when we're some of the best people he has handled ever ever ever?

And I'm sorry but I just have to say that this is one of my favorite photos of myself :D

Oops, after one too many drinks XD

I will spare you the other photos because they are mostly stolen snappies of people drinking and joking, but I assure you it was definitely a fun night, albeit one tinged with melancholy. And yeah, I was able to go to work the next day even after feeling so buzzed up the night before :D

I wish you luck in love and in life. Goodbye TL Jimmy, 'til we meet again.

Oh boy, TL Carlo surely has some big shoes to fill. But of course, we won't make the job harder for him. ;)

*The title of this post is a line by Nickel Creek's song This Side. I was singing it at the office one day and he was pleasantly surprised that I know the song as it was not that popular before. Oh yeah, MTV-generation kid here. :)

A bag-gy affair

07 July 2010

I'm in the mood for a light-hearted post today so let's do a little Show-and-Tell! :D

This is related to the question Jessica left on my Formspring account:
Hi Krissy! Surprise, surprise! :) As for my question, if your bag can only carry three things: what would they be? :)
Lemme see. Hmm, I think I can do with face powder, lipstick and my camera. Of course I can just put my money and phone in my pockets, right? Right? =D

Random Fact number 1: Wherever I go, I have to have a bag with me. Always. I can never carry my stuff in just my pockets. Add to that the fact that I am almost always wearing skirts or dresses that don't have pockets. Aside from the essentials (e.g. money, umbrella [it's the rainy season in the Philippines, yo], pens) I lug around too much stuff that I am absolutely certain I would need if I left them at home because Murphy's Law works that way, you know? And that is the reason why I bring 3 different headbands, 2 different necklaces and 2 different bracelets with me all the time.

And yeah, I have seen this tag going around the blogosphere that I might be the last one to do it (I believe Mel tagged me to do this post ages ago, long before I took a five-month hiatus from Blogger). Here are the things I always bring with me:

More than anything else, this picture made me realize I really, really like pink XD

1. Hello Kitty coin purse. I actually got that one just a week ago. Ever since the unfortunate robbing incident I still haven't had the heart to buy a new wallet.
2. Lady Mirabou - my point-and-shoot digital camera (a purple Casio Exilim EX Z330)  in its pretty floral case.
3. Hand lotion for emergency dry skin moments and a body spritz. Scent of the moment is Penshoppe's Tropicana. I looove its fruity-floral scent!
4. Pens.
5. Notepad. I got mine personalized by PostScript Designs.
6. Makeup kit.
7. Alexandra - my Nokia 2220.
8. A pack of Kleenex.
9. Company ID.
10. Flash Drive.
11. Scrunchies for emergency bad hair days.

Not included in the photo is my umbrella. :)

And btw. here is Lady Mirabou. I took a photo of her in the mirror just because I thought it was too cute that she matches the color of my nails :D

Random Fact number 2: I love bags! Aside from being very convenient, I love how a bag (or a purse, if you  may) can jazz up an otherwise boring outfit. They can also add the final touches on the look you are trying to achieve. Here are some of my favorite bags, photos taken set against the back of my bedroom door:

Left: the Marilyn Monroe-looking girl reads Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass
Right: Aubrey Hepburn is one of the most beautiful faces in the history of films. Fact.

Left: yellow quilted bag
Right: a lady waiting by the stairs

Left: mini Oreo tarp bag
Middle: Le Sportsac bag with cute bow
Right: faux snake-skin bag

Left: photo is a bit blurry but that is a pretty wood nymph drawing
Middle: rust orange sling bag I bought in Singapore
Right: gray-orange Jag Jeans bag I won from a Candy magazine giveaway five years(?) ago

Left: hot pink faux croc-skin bag from my officemate/ good friend Marsha
Right: a white leather Marithe Francoise Girbaud bag which was Dane's Christmas gift for me

That's all for now! Got any questions/ messages/ what-have-you's for me? Ask Krissy or post in the comments! :D

PS: Blogspot had some issues on the Comments yesterday and some of the comments were not appearing. I have actually been wanting to try Disqus for some time now so I tried to install it last night. Now I'm asking, which do you prefer? Should I continue using Disqus or should I switch back to the regular way of posting comments? Let me know, thanks! ;)

A Piece of Me... in July 2010

04 July 2010

This month...

I like that I am given another chance to make sure the month ends right for me.

I don't like being whiny and don't fancy being sad so I promise to stop myself when I feel Misses Loneliness and Whine try to convince me to go to the dark side again.

I want you to know that a foolproof way for me to relieve myself from stress is by watching movies. I swear, a trip to the cinema has an instantaneous calming effect on me. I may be watching a sad movie, but the feeling of seeing it on the big screen makes up for the tears I am sure to shed at some point in the movie. Last week's stress relievers were Eclipse and Toy Story 3 (melted my heart, btw).

I've planned to give myself a makeover, little by little. I won't do anything drastic though. I started with my hair. I have been wanting to get a haircut for so long that I am happy I was able to do it today. I also want to have my hair colored (red!) but I am scared I will have a drastic reaction to the chemicals (hello skin allergy brought about by sunblock x_x) so I opted to have a cellophane treatment instead. I love my new hairstyle! :D

I want to say to someone special, thank you for everything TL Jimmy. You will definitely be missed by all of us, and we hope we can still find the chance to get together some time. I will be carrying the memories I've had of you (even when you were not my supervisor yet up until now that you are due to transfer to another department). Good luck on your new position, and may you be continuously blessed.

And now, photos of me sporting my new hairstyle! Just because ;)

This is me trying to look as if I don't care whether I look cool or not :D

This is me showing you my Betty tshirt :D

This is me looking like Psyduck XD

And this is me looking pretty :)
(Ehem everyone who agrees gets free winks from me lol)

This is a game thought up by the Toothfairy so we can all share a bit of ourselves to our readers by completing a set of unfinished sentences every first Sunday of the month. I'm so glad she's back :)

By the way, how would you like to meet new friends and receive postcards from halfway around the world? Sounds great, right? If you want to participate, hop over to Nikolett's Postcard Project (there's also a button on my sidebar)! You have only until July 8 to join :)

All in a Day's Work

03 July 2010

I have been having a not-so-good time at the office for the last couple of weeks. I have been under a lot of stress brought about by different factors - pressure to meet (and exceed, if possible) my metrics, pressure to save up enough money for my trip on October at the same time making sure there is enough money to spend, having to change managers as our current team leader will be transferring to another department, and a host of other things occupying my mind. Really, as much as the smallest things can make me happy, I also make myself sick with worry over the most trivial things. Add to that some not-so-good experiences with customers and you've got a timebomb just raring to explode. I can totally relate to Kym's post about sometimes feeling as if you're carrying the world on your shoulders. Sometimes Most of the time the thought of succumbing to stress sounds like a very tempting idea.

Sometimes I ask myself why I am still here and why I am robbing myself of the chance to go after what I really want.

Sometimes I just want to give up.

But God is good and He manifests His goodness in the simplest of things.

Because sometimes, when we feel like ready to give up, we get something like this:

We call this a whale-done card :)
These are given to CSRs as a form of appreciation for any good deed done

It reads:
Kristel,
That compliment call was absolutely amazing! Keep it up. I look forward to having more compliment calls from you!
Carlo Ü
TL Carlo will be our new supervisor effective on the 12th of July as TL Jimmy has decided to transfer to another department. It's sad of course, but it is a well-accepted fact that not everyone you meet will be with you for as long as you want them to.

The reason for this simple token is because of a customer who was very impressed with the (in his words) "personalized and professional" service I have provided him so he asked to speak to someone else (in this case, the higher ups) about this. Thus, the compliment call.

It may seem very small, but for us who at times get calls from people who think they are of better species, hearing kind praises like what the aforementioned customer gushed about me is very much appreciated.

I don't want to sound too much of a downer (as I feel like I've been pestering you with my whines more frequently, sorry about that) but I just want to tell you what happened to me last Monday. After one too many "difficult" customers, I broke down to TL Jimmy and told him how I don't want my job anymore. I sobbed and sobbed, it's quite embarrassing really, now that I think of it. But at that moment I didn't care. I just felt so unhappy. TL Jimmy did a good job in counseling me, providing comfort, and by just being there to listen. Then, I thought of telling my teammates that I resigned effective immediately just to gauge their reactions, and never have I felt more special to them than in that moment. My closest friend at the office, Mich, even teared up. I felt kinda mean doing that prank, but I just feel thankful that these fine people love me dearly and will miss my presence when I'm gone.
