Friends Forever, Ffffound.

04 March 2012

I've always wanted to wander the world with my wonderful friends. And we're starting with baby steps. It only took us less than three hours to reach Tagaytay City but it felt a lot shorter because of the many stories we swapped while on the road.

These beautiful sights welcomed me and my friends ♥
Manila has been unbearably hot and humid lately, so the lush greens, cold and cool breeze, and rustic charm of Kampo Berde (The Green Camp) are a big relief! The Villas family have made a lot of changes and developments to the place since the last time I was there just a year ago, but it is still the same paradise I remember and love.

With my friend Carmela. We've been close friends since we were eight ♥
We occupied the little hut shown on the fourth photo on the collage above. Aside from a balcony and a bathroom, it has four bunk beds inside.

Sorry for the mess (we're a big group of 11 people, what can you expect?), but here's what it looks like inside.
I stayed on the top bunk (and yes, that's me heehee).
Aside from being a weekend getaway for our barkada, we also wanted it to be an advanced birthday celebration for Carmela and a despedida party for Christian who will be leaving for Canada on Tuesday. Surprises are always great, especially when they're appreciated :)

(1) Our improvised cake made of donuts, mallows, and chocolate wafer sticks. (2) Our food. We had  pork barbecue, roast chicken, hotdogs on stick, and spring rolls. (3) Carmela and Christian (4) Loot bags containing toothbrushes, toothpaste, powder, disinfectants, wet wipes, shampoo, and hair gel LOL.
Love love :)
After the party, we stayed up late just reminiscing about our elementary and high school days (including the fights we had) and playing our favorite indoor games like Concentration, 7Up, and the bestseller Spin the Bottle. It was so much fun! I don't think I have ever laughed that hard since this year started :)) We went to bed at half past two in the morning; I actually didn't want to sleep yet because I wanted to make the most of our time together but they all drifted to dreamland before the clock struck 3.

And even though I was the last one to sleep, I was still the first one to get up. I went out to have coffee and read at a nice spot (where the photo from the previous post was taken) and waited for them to wake up so we can eat breakfast together.

From left to right: Ric, Chester, Dianne, Christian, Third, Carmela, Fem, Aiza, Niel, and Jer.
Except for Fem who is Aiza's boyfriend, I've known these guys since we were kids :)
Girls vs Boys in patintero
The same guys striking a pose on the left are the same guys scrambling to shower haha.
♥
We're missing a couple of people who weren't able to attend, but here's hoping our little big group can be complete again at another gathering someday.
Thank you, Kampo Berde, for adopting us for a while :)
So many years have passed and so many things have happened, but one of the most solid and special things that remain constant in my life is the friendship I have with them. We all grew up together, and we've seen one another go through our awkward adolescence stages, puppy loves, difficult school subjects and even more difficult teachers, and first heartbreaks. I know friendship is not about whom you have known the longest; it's about people who came and never left your side. Well, I'm happy to tell you that they are both of those definitions to me ♥ I don't think I could have survived high school without them, and even though we had our fair share of misunderstandings and differences before I know I couldn't have had a better set of friends than them.
My friends remind me, by their very steadfastness, that truth, beauty, and goodness exist in the world, and that, no matter what, there are and always will be people loving people through thick and thin.
Other people, including our parents, have expressed surprise that we have still managed to become good friends even after all these years, but for me personally I think there are no big surprises there, really. I am just continuously amazed and grateful that we still make a collective effort to make time for one another. We may not see one another for months, but when we do manage to get together it's always as if no time has passed. Nothing has changed and nothing will change - in my heart of hearts, I know we will be best friends until we're old and gray, and it doesn't matter if we lose our way because we'll keep on coming back.

We'll always keep on coming back.

03 March 2012

I just came back from an overnight stay in Kampo Berde with my oldest and closest friends and I had a really great time! This little haven on the boundary of Tagaytay and Cavite is such a beauuutiful place and it provided the best backdrop for the bonding sessions we needed to catch up on.

I will share more stories and photos tomorrow, but for now I'm doing this quick post for posterity's sake. I just want to remember this moment forever... I am alive, I am happy, and I am blessed with the most wonderful friends. I love my life, and I am beyond grateful ♥

Hoping you're also enjoying your weekend!

02 March 2012

My bags aren't packed, yet here I am, blogging haha. Maybe I should look into free article writing services so I can get some new content for my blog while I am away? In a couple of hours I would be leaving the scorching heat of Manila and go on a roadtrip to Kampo Berde in Tagaytay and spend the weekend there with my oldest and closest friends (I've known some of them since we were four, and the rest since we were eight!) and I AM SO EXCITED!! We're planning on playing again the outdoor games we used to play before so the next 36 hours should be filled with fun times (",)

I'm going to leave you guys with this fun Q&A. I was tagged by Angel to do this, and man, did she leave me some tough questions to answer! Here are the rules:

- Post these rules
- Post 11 random things about yourself
- Answer the questions that the tagger set for you in their post
- Create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer

Random things about myself:

1. I have had a LOT of nicknames. At home I've been called Kring-Kring, Ann-Ann, Aann, Ethel, and Tetay. In high school my closest friends called me Teta (they still call me that until now, actually), and I also made my classmates call me Bryttel (because I was - and still am - a BIG Britney fan). In college I was called Tetel. When I started working, my former teammate Charles called me Krissy, and the name stuck. My blog URL was derived from that nickname :)

2. I would like to have a fairy tattoo on my back. Just a small one, on the right corner of the part where the bra clasps meet. I have yet to figure out how to make my parents agree to it, though.

3. The sentence above might seem kinda odd, considering that: I've been living independently for more than three years now. The first two years were spent with housemates, but I started living alone in the latter part of 2010. I go to my parents' house during my rest days (like now), and whenever I'm here I get babied endlessly. I love home-cooked food ♥

4. My favorite part of my body is probably my butt. False modesty aside, I love how shapely my hips and butt are even before I started gaining weight. Thanks to all those physical training we did during my COCC and CAT days, I guess.

5. I used to be so outgoing. Whenever there's a program at school I was always tapped to host them, I was a COCC trainee, a CAT officer, and also held positions at the Student Council from elementary to college (and you know it takes guts to do those things). I even represented the country on an international youth camp held abroad! That's why I find it strange that all those self-confidence seemed to have flown out the window and I feel like I've been reduced to a whimpering wallflower x_x

6. I can sing all the words to Me Against the Music by Britney Spears and Madonna haha. But I sincerely hope Britney would retire for a while and just leave the public eye for a few years, and maybe stage a big comeback tour once she is completely well. It's sad to see her "dead" eyes these days.

7. I like Once Upon A Time's Snow White a LOT more than Disney's.

8. How I Met Your Mother gets better and better! In a way I would love to learn who the Mother is, but I also don't want to, because knowing her would mean the end. And I'm not sure how I can cope with that yet. All these feelings for fictional characters ♥

9. I LOVE Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. To meet one person randomly and be able to connect with him in all levels and talk about anything and everything, I think that's the dream.

10. My favorite love song is Keane's Somewhere Only We Know. The lyrics and melodies... so haunting, so bittersweet.

11. I wish people would lay off me and think they know what I feel. Here's a thought: you don't. The worst part of everything that has happened is having this dark shadow that I could never leave behind because people keep on bringing it up. I know, I've realized, and I've acknowledged that I've made a huge mistake before, so there's no need to remind me every.single.time. I've moved on, so I guess you should all do, too.

Answered questions of the tagger:

1. What do you believe in?
Neil Gaiman said it best:
"I can believe things that are true and I can believe things that aren't true and I can believe things where nobody knows if they're true or not. I can believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny and Marilyn Monroe and the Beatles and Elvis and Mister Ed. Listen — I believe that people are perfectible, that knowledge is infinite, that the world is run by secret banking cartels and is visited by aliens on a regular basis, nice ones that look like wrinkledy lemurs and bad ones who mutilate cattle and want our water and our women. I believe that the future sucks and I believe that the future rocks and I believe that one day White Buffalo Woman is going to come back and kick everyone's ass. I believe that all men are just overgrown boys with deep problems communicating and that the decline in good sex in America is coincident with the decline in drive-in movie theaters from state to state. I believe that all politicians are unprincipled crooks and I still believe that they are better than the alternative. I believe that California is going to sink into the sea when the big one comes, while Florida is going to dissolve into madness and alligators and toxic waste. I believe that antibacterial soap is destroying our resistance to dirt and disease so that one day we'll all be wiped out by the common cold like the Martians in War of the Worlds. I believe that the greatest poets of the last century were Edith Sitwell and Don Marquis, that jade is dried dragon sperm, and that thousands of years ago in a former life I was a one-armed Siberian shaman. I believe that mankind's destiny lies in the stars. I believe that candy really did taste better when I was a kid, that it's aerodynamically impossible for a bumblebee to fly, that light is a wave and a particle, that there's a cat in a box somewhere who's alive and dead at the same time (although if they don't ever open the box to feed it it'll eventually just be two different kinds of dead), and that there are stars in the universe billions of years older than the universe itself. I believe in a personal god who cares about me and worries and oversees everything I do. I believe in an impersonal god who set the universe in motion and went off to hang with her girlfriends and doesn't even know that I'm alive. I believe in an empty and godless universe of causal chaos, background noise, and sheer blind luck. I believe that anyone who says that sex is overrated just hasn't done it properly. I believe that anyone who claims to know what's going on will lie about the little things too. I believe in absolute honesty and sensible social lies. I believe in a woman's right to choose, a baby's right to live, that while all human life is sacred there's nothing wrong with the death penalty if you can trust the legal system implicitly, and that no one but a moron would ever trust the legal system. I believe that life is a game, that life is a cruel joke, and that life is what happens when you're alive and that you might as well lie back and enjoy it." (from American Gods)
2. Do you prefer being single or being in a relationship?
I've experienced being single and being in a relationship. Heck I even did the pseudo-relationship thing. And although there are some things that are great about being single, I think I prefer being in a relationship. Because it's always nice to have someone to watch movies with.

3. How would you describe yourself in three words?
Alive, passionate, and dynamic.

4. Do you have any good books to recommend?
At the top of my mind, just because the movie is coming up, I'd say The Hunger Games trilogy! And you should get The Best of Archie Comics, too, just because we all need a good dose of fun and pop culture :)

5. What about any good music?
My iPod is filled with songs from the 90s and early 2000s :D

6. Would you rather go 24 hours with a frog in your mouth or a mouse in your butt? :p
LOL 24 hours with a frog in my mouth? I imagine it'd be slimy and gross though XD

7. Why?
How did you even come up with these questions?? :D

8. Who, in your opinion, is the sexiest celebrity out there?
Chito Miranda, the lead vocalist of Parokya ni Edgar. Wit and humor will win my heart anytime ♥ Ryan Gosling is a close second. And then Ben Barnes.

9. Do you think 'making ligaw' is old-fashioned?
All I can say is, I feel sorry for the teenage girls who won't get to experience what it feels to be 'maligawan' :)

10. Do you play video games?
Only kiddie games like Chocobo Racing LOL. Does The Sims count?

11. Do you believe in second chances?
Yes, every one deserves one. I'm not a fan of third chances, though.

11 new sets of questions:
1. What do you like most about me?
2. What do you like least about me?
3. What is your favorite childhood memory?
4. What is your favorite Disney movie and why?
5. What is your favorite thing about summer?
6. Who is your favorite superhero?
7. If you were a boy for a day, what's the first thing you would do?
8. Do you think heaven exists? What is your idea of heaven?
9. What is your favorite body part?
10. What is your biggest regret?
11. Not to sound morbid or anything, but what would you like your epitaph to read?

That was fun! Thank you for the tag, Angel! Now I'm tagging Barbie, Klaire, Lei, Roma, Meream, and Mimai!

Definitely Lovin' Summer!

01 March 2012

I have been on a self-imposed shopping ban* since the beginning of the year, so thank the shopping gods for gift cards that come my way ♥

We were given some gift cards during the launch of the Lovin' Summer collection by SM Accessories and since I took the day off from work yesterday (just because it's a Leap Day, and I've always been known to find a cause to celebrate every little occasion/ occurrence) I decided to drop by SM North EDSA to get some summer lovin' in the form of trinkets and pretty little things.

Those of you taking fashion design courses will love my haul!

There was a bit of a sitch at first regarding the gift cards I wanted to use, but in the end I was able to bring these goodies home:

Bright and happy colors!
I know one can never have too many bracelets and rings, but I almost went crazy for a bit because they all looked so pretty and it took all of my willpower to convince myself that I was in the mood for more "practical" stuff yesterday, like the following:

Red sling bag
P629.75
This is perfect for casual days, lending a pop of color to neutral outfits
Headband
P99.75
The colorful beads look almost good enough to eat!
This is great for when my hair reaches that awkward growing stage
Orange faux snakeskin wallet
P349.75
I don't know if I got it because the wallet I'm currently using looks better suited to a high school student. Or if I got it because of the many compartments. Or because of the bright, happy color. Or maybe it's just because it looks sooo good with my current nail polish ;D
Scarf
P299.75
THE PRINT IS SO PRETTY!!! And I have nothing else to say.
Except that oh yeah, scarves are so versatile and can be used to adorn my hair, my bag, my neck, or my waist.
Orange/ nude belt
P149.75
This waist belt looks so pretty and fits me perfectly.
Great accent to dresses or long tops.
A load of pretty little things for only a little more than P1,500?! WOW! SM Accessories really is the go-to place for us girls who love scoring pretty finds at a steal! I love everything I got and I can't wait to start using them! Thank you, SM Accessories!

Summer lover here! Are you? ♥

*except for books. My self-imposed shopping bans do not cover books. I know it kinda defeats the purpose of a "shopping ban", but no I couldn't resist the lure of printed words.

Lovin' Summer by SM Accessories

Blame Manila's bipolar weather: the launch of the Lovin' Summer collection by SM Accessories almost didn't happen because of the rain. Thankfully it still pushed through (even though it was set back a couple of hours), and what a great success it was!

Here are some photos from the runway during the well-attended launch held at the lobby of Dusit Thani Hotel last February 27:

I loved watching the models sashay down the stairs and onto the three different platforms while summer-y music was playing in the background :)

Sorry for the low-quality pictures. I really should invest on a better camera soon. Now here are better and clearer pictures from SM Accessories so you can choose your favorites:

I enjoyed the launch with the following fabulous people:

my dear friend Poly
Vern, Reg, Kaye, Angel, Pax, Tracy and Aie
And here is what I wore. Thank you, Kaye, for the photo!
Pink jacket - Next Jeans | White tank top - 168 | Striped skirt - Brown Belly | Heels - Tiffany
Aside from the scorching heat, there's no better indicator that summer's here than seeing different types of swimwear on full display at shops and malls. A great-fitting bikini is, without a doubt, a beach staple already. Now to make your summer garb more glamorous, why don't you pass by SM Accessories first and take your pick among the vast selection of trinkets and things (like shades, hats, and sling bags, just to name a few) that can spell the difference between blending in and standing out? I did my own shopping just yesterday and I'm going to share with you my loot on my next post ;)

Now, if you're one of the few who don't like summer... Seriously, with the sand and sea and ice-cold lemonades, how can you not love summer and all the sunshine it brings? ♥

BLANC by Gold Dot

Now here on popular demand: a diffusion line of Gold Dot called BLANC feauring Karl Leuterio's designs!
A more basic, price-friendly line for girls who love flats, the styles are much simpler that would cater to a bigger market among women. After all, flats are still one of the most coveted shoes in the market even with the ubiquitous rise in popularity of high heels and platform shoes.
For their first release, Karl was inspired to create 3 flats: Emi, Esme and Eriko. Being a guy, he wanted to incorporate a touch of androgynous, metallic, and sportswear to the shoes hence the padded ankle straps and cut out elements. Esme is a 2 way flats which can be worn in any way; you can snap the metallic parts or not depending on your outfit or mood. The Emi, on the other hand, were inspired by space age, future and sportwear hence the glass foil metallic palette. The last one is Eriko, simple cut out loafers. It's extremely chic and a downplayer in any outfit, but the simple details are what sets it apart. It has a metallic feature too. Visit Gold Dot's official website now to see more details!

Thank You Global Pinoy Awards

Who is the modern day Filipino hero?
He’s no Andres Bonifacio nor is he a Jose Rizal. But even without a sword, a gun or a pen, his sacrifice for the country is no less valiant. After all, he carries the aspirations of his family and the country’s economic security on his back.
Aptly called as the modern day hero, these 11 million overseas Filipino workers have earned the trust and admiration of employers all over the world. Something we as their countrymen should all be proud of. With this reason, the Commission of Filipinos Overseas, Duty Free Philippines, and Kraft Asia pay tribute to the Global Pinoys that have showed excellence not only in their careers, but also in the initiatives to help their fellowmen in the country, through the Thank You Global Pinoy Awards.
The Thank You Global Pinoy Awards is an initiative to search for the most outstanding global Filipino workers who deserve the gratitude not only of their loved ones; but also of the nation as a whole. It was primarily led by the Commission of Filipinos Overseas, the government agency tasked to promote and uphold the interests of Filipino emigrants and permanent residents abroad. “In its tradition of being the thank you and pasalubong chocolate from overseas Filipinos, Toblerone has initiated this project in order to give back, and give each and every Global Pinoy what they truly deserve—a sweet thank you,” shares Jaya Singh, Region Director, Middle East and Asia Pacific, Kraft Foods World Travel Retail. The online nominations ran from October 2011 to February 2012, and 10 outstanding overseas Filipino workers have been chosen and will be announced during the Awards Night on March 15, 2012.
Be part of a grateful nation. Join the rest of the country as it honors the ultimate global Pinoy, whom a grateful nation will say a resounding thank you to. For more information, visit www.thankyouglobalpinoy.com.

The Chocolate Clothing Fashion Truckie (I blogged about it here) will be at Platform on March 18!

Converse Asia Crown 2012

What better way to hold the country’s biggest Skate Summit than to let two of the world’s best pro skaterboarders to lead it?
This is exactly what Converse Philippines has in store for the hundreds of skateboard enthusiasts who are set to compete for the Converse Asia Crown title on March 31 at the Trinoma Mindanao Open Parking in Quezon City.
During the summit, US-based pro skaterboarders Kenny Anderson and Mike Anderson are set to show Filipino skaters how skateboarding is really done with their extremely polished skate tricks that seem effortless. Kenny Anderson, who returns better than ever as an alumni to the Converse Skate Team (having been on the original team in 1997), is considered “untouchable” on a skateboard for his consistent style and fluidity; while for Mike Anderson’s part, his skating is often described as “effortless,” because he is said to make his tricks look as if was very easy to do.
Catering to the best skateboarders around the Metro, the Asia Crown aims to give Filipino skateboarders the chance to show off their dope moves on the board and compete with the best of the best skateboarders across the country. More than bragging rights, the local Asia Crown skateboarding champion will be hailed as the first official skateboarding ambassador of Converse Philippines—That means a year of Converse skateboarding goodies, P50,000 cold hard cash, and plane tickets to official Converse skateboarding events worldwide.
An open skate for all, free of charge, the skate summit will also be a day-long celebration of physical recreation, while fusing music and the arts, to reinforce Converse Philippines’ position as a key proponent of the global sport that is skateboarding,
For interested registrants, check Converse Philippines Facebook page or visit www.converse.com.ph. Registration forms are available for download at the Converse Philippines’ Converse Asia Crown FB event page and in stores nationwide.
